The SUGAR project will focus on residential and passenger transport sectors at the Belgian level.
The main objectives are to:
- Evaluate and understand the acceptability of sufficiency policies and measures (including the willingness to pay/accept).
- Quantify the influence of these measures on the Belgian energy system with the TIMES model.
- Analyze their effects on the electricity transmission grid, including ongestion, peak load and adaquacy.
- Formulate policy recommendations and design innovative sufficiency-based electricity contracts.
The mission is to determine whether and how sufficiency could:
- Reduce energy demand,
- Improbe system flexibility and reduce grid stress,
- Reduce investment needs and support a cost-effective transition,
- Bring social and economic benefits,
- Strengthen security of supply.
