The SUGAR project will focus on residential and passenger transport sectors at the Belgian level. 

The main objectives are to: 

• Evaluate and understand the acceptability of sufficiency policies and measures (including the willingness to pay/accept).
• Quantify the influence of these measures on the Belgian energy system with the TIMES model.
• Analyze their effects on the electricity transmission grid, including ongestion, peak load and adaquacy.
• Formulate policy recommendations and design innovative sufficiency-based electricity contracts.

The mission is to determine whether and how sufficiency could:

• Reduce energy demand,
• Improbe system flexibility and reduce grid stress,
• Reduce investment needs and support a cost-effective transition,
• Bring social and economic benefits,
• Strengthen security of supply.
